I've had a 328xi sedan loaner twice - 2013, then a 2014. I wasn't at all impressed with the first; seats were garbage, the i-drive system was crap, and overall everything just felt cheap. I couldn't wait to give it back. The second one, however, had the M Sport package and a revised i-drive, and I was hard-pressed not to trade in the very impractical Z4 M. The sport seats are fantastic, and that 2.0T has gobs of torque at > idle. Plus, there's trunk space and a back seat, and it makes quite a lovely sound :)
I happened to get the second loaner during Chicago's most recent blizzard, and as far as I'm concerned, x-drive is the greatest thing to happen to AWD since Subaru. I tested it from a dead stand-still on an empty road...in Sport+ mode, foot flat on the floor, the car LAUNCHED and chewed up the packed snow, laughing all the way to 60 mph at my trivial efforts to foil its computers. Took a sharp corner expecting to slide the back around a little, and all it did was turn. Amazed, I figured they must have outfitted that thing with snow tires, so I got out and discovered nothing more than bone stock Continentals.
As much as I loathe devout BMW owners for their me-first attitude, both on and off the road, I have to say I really did enjoy that car. If I weren't so bent on having a clutch, I would have a hard time not justifying that purchase. Especially during these winters.
