Yes. I found it to be a massive pain. I was replacing the right side inner driver, which is the same procedure. Disconnect the motor mounts, jack up the engine a high a you can to get clearance, remove the rear engine mount bracket which holds the inner driver. Oh, you have to disconnect the downpipe to allow the engine to go up. No need to remove the alternator, but maybe it would make it easier, i never tried that.
