New Wheel Bearing Bad - or something else? Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery]

Last week I replaced the right front wheel bearing with a new Timken (SKF in a different box) piece. The old one was quite noisy, especially when braking and making sharp left turns. Torqued the new axle nut on the new bearing sufficiently by standing on the end of my two foot breaker bar.
This week I noticed that something is still amiss, although not nearly as bad as before. Went out to a shopping center parking lot after hours and did some doughnuts, and the right one is making some noise - although quieter than before, but still significantly louder than the left. What could have gone wrong here? Bad replacement bearing? Not anxious to do this job again...........
