Feasibility of Converting/Upgrading Air Bags? Posted by RAVC1 [Email] (#247) [Profile/Gallery] (more from RAVC1) on Sun, 21 Dec 2014 04:38:39 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I overlooked this potentially significant point. I have a super clean 1993 CSE that I am in the midst of converting to a 5-Sp. I just purchased a 1997 Aero with sheet metal issues and my primary thought was to convert the 2nd generation '93 to the 3rd generation '97. Then I remembered the '93 has a glove box. It may be feasible to replace the glove box with the passenger air bag but, this will depend on issues such as:
1 - Sheet metal variations in the 9000 model years (most vehicles get lighter during a lengthy production run; I do not know if the 9000 did.).
2 - ECU/BCU communications. Exchanging engine. 5-Sp, ECU, harness (if necessary) is no big deal, just time. However, if communications between the various body controllers and the ECU are different between these generation of 9000s then my plan could be disrupted or more complex and require exchanging body controllers and perhaps harnesses.
Any intelligent ideas...before I begin disassembling the 1997?
Rick
