Unfortunately I don't really have too much to add. It know it's tough to determine the source of a noise from under a running car, but if it is the trans my best guess (and it is a guess) would be the output bearing. if you're lucky it could be the intermediate shaft bearing. That's not in the trans, but close enough it could be tough to differentiate the sound. The 9k trans usually fails with the dif bearings, which whine under power or overrun, but not in the neutral or 'coasting' with the throttle. Honestly, I don't think there's much you can do, however a whining bearing can last many of tens of thousands of miles (or not). I wouldn't worry about it unless it starts getting louder.
