But, mgwAZ, don't presume it's bad.
Also don't presume you have fuel because you think you hear the pump running.
Though, your idea to spray something in the manifold and see if it coughs is a good one. No action then seems to say you don't have spark. You might or might not have fuel.
IF there were no signal from the CPS you wouldn't be getting spark and you wouldn't be getting fuel pump running while cranking. I guess these cars have a burst of fuel pump at key on but I never heard it on either of mine when they were running.
But the CPS at least on late-model 9000s is about bulletproof, no one ever reports one has gone bad. Some people change them and find that wasn't the problem.
I think you'd have to cut the wires and splice to change one. The wiring goes into a bigger wire bundle and then thru the false firewall and into the multi-plug to the engine control brain.
What's the history of your non-running?
Woke up one morning and it wouldn't start? Died on the road? Any other engine crisis that might be causing this?
