Manifold gauge set question

Should it be possible to blow/suck air through the yellow charge/evac hose of a manifold gauge set?

I'm asking because I can't pull a vacuum, not even a tiny bit, with the hoses connected correctly (blue hose to low side, red hose to high side, yellow hose to vacuum pump, valves open). However, if I connect the red hose where the yellow hose should be connected and close the valve to the high side then I can easily pull a deep vacuum through the low side.

I can blow air through both the blue and red hoses, but not through the yellow hose. Am I right to suspect something isn't right about the yellow hose? This is a new Mastercool 66661 gauge set that should be adequate for DIY auto A/C work.
