There is a photocell on the face of the clock/trip computer/EDU that controls the brightness of the LCD display panels - it's a round window about the size of a pencil eraser. The photocell can be replaced with a $2 part if you are handy with a soldering iron. Do a search here on "photocell" and you will find instructions.
