Hi Bill. I used the SS 18-8 rod because it's essentially 304 SS and has good strength at high heat. The EZ inserts I used were also SS. I didn't want to deal with carbon steels rusting and getting stuck. The ARP studs are pretty spendy and they are short. I reused the spacers and also added SS belleville spring washers back-to-back. Might be overkill. The SS will expand about 45% more in length than the carbon steel studs, based on what I see on the internet. The SS will expand in length about 60% more than cast iron. This should put less stress on the SS stud as it heats up. The SS should strong enough. The good part is I don't have a lot of money in materials and have enough left over to do a few more Saabs should the need arise. I have (3) 9000's on the road right now so it could come up again. We'll see how this holds up.
