Using that exact unit on my Miata that we installed a Nissan motor. I had a lot of concerns prior to using it, mainly that I'm tied to a satellite for speed and using additional electronics.
In practice, this autometer GPS unit it works fantastic. Takes between 10 and 60secs to find a signal after start-up before it will reflect speed. It doesn't give readings in parking garages or tunnels and it briefly drops under some highway overpasses. We did the calibration procedure over a year ago and haven't touched it since (not sure if that will change if the battery needs to be replaced though).
Be aware, in some 9000's (95-98) I believe the ECU needs the speed signal to function properly or it will be in limp mode.
