Auto Trans Pros: Does this sounds like a kickdown cable issue? Posted by turrbo [Email] (#8) [Profile/Gallery] (more from turrbo) on Fri, 24 Feb 2017 22:22:34 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I was driving my '95 9k this afternoon on a strangely warm February day in Boston (70 degrees) in stop and go traffic for about an hour. As I neared the end of my journey, I noticed my auto tranny wasn't shifting into 3rd or 4th anymore. The 1-2 shift was as smooth as always, but even at speeds of up to 45mph, it was staying in 2nd.
Several hours later, I got back in and started driving home - lo and behold everything is perfectly normal and 3rd and 4th are back. All upshifts and downshifts are perfectly smooth.
My thought is that either the heat or the stop and go or a combination of both did something in there. Just seems strange to me that cooling off returned it to perfect operation.
FWIW, the car has 220k miles, and this is the original tranny. Fluid changes have been every 10k for the last 100k+ miles and the governor seals were done about 20k ago.
Any thoughts?? I'll have to keep my eye on it for now and see if it happens again!
