BobD is spot on, the master cylinder does not leak when it fails whereas the slave cylinder does (from the bottom of the bell housing). Sounds like you've got very typical master cylinder failure, it tends to get worse somewhat gradually. No need to scrap the car! It's pretty easy and inexpensive to change. You do want to pressure bleed it though rather than using the pedal (I use an old bike inner tube cut it in two with one end tied in a knot and the other clamped to the master cylinder with an hose clamp as a cheap-o method - just have a spare tube on hand)
