I think it would be uncommon for a fuel pump to quit while driving, no? My understanding is the brushes wear out and you eventually stop with the brushes on a dead spot and can't restart.
Just suddenly quitting with no other symptoms, my first thought would be and electrical connections somewhere. Good luck, I know an intermittent fault is absolutely no fun to chase down.
