Engine rebuild question

So I have taken the pistons out everything looks fine but the engine is unfamiliar to me since I purchased it from someone else. The head gasket was blown I'm guessing that's why the car was parked, but not really sure. My question is if I have them clean the block at a machine shop what do I need to do about the balance shafts. Should I go ahead and take them out before I take it to the engine shop. Or is that something that can be left in the car while it's taking its bath. The rod bearings look good the crank bearings looked good the rings and pistons all looked very very good you can still see crosshatch in the block. So I was kind of thinking that I really don't even need to take the block and have it cleaned, just have the head checked out and make sure the head is not warped and have Brad go ahead and do the valve stem seals. I was also going to check the gap on the cylinder blocks to make sure I can put standard Rings back in as well as standard rod and main bearings. There was no sludge in the bottom of the oil pan. You can definitely tell everything was getting oil to all the proper places so I'm wondering if I even need to have the block cleaned anybody else's thoughts would be appreciated.
