The relay is at the back of a whole panel of relays located behind the fuses. I should point out that my car is right-hand drive but I'm sure yours will be the same in the end
There is no need to disturb the air-bag. Find an old blanket to go on the ground so you can lean into the footwell comfortably, you will be in there of perhaps fifteen minutes. Drop down the door to the fuses. You can then undo a couple of screws into the underside of the dash (they have Torx heads, the driver is the middle-sized one of those in your toolkit) and remove the fuse door assembly and the carpet attached to it. You might have to slide the plastic ventilation duct down out of its clip to make room, no trick to that
On top of the carpet there is a diagram of the relays, you are looking for "Turn Signal" in the back row
Now remove the actual fuse panel with two more black Torx screws, and drop it down carefully into the footwell. The board holding all the relays is in behind. The board will hinge down, which is fine to access the front row of relays, but to get the the back ones you will need to lift up the back edge of the board to unhook it from the bent metal bracket on which it is hinged
Just re-seating the relay might help, you can do this then test the flashers without re-fitting everything. Replacing the relay is really easy and with the mileage on our cars maybe you should do that anyway, while you're in there. You could also replace your fuel pump relay (front left) which is cheap as chips - buy a proper Bosch one, of course
When you come to put everything back, it works to put your hand under the relay board and locate the plastic hinges onto the metal hinge bracket (just take a look first and all will be clear). Then hinge the board up. Take care not to dislodge the relays while replacing the board, or you may get your problem back
Then you refit everything else. All of this will be quick to do, the hardest part is wriggling down to see everything and undo/re-do the screws, which is why you need the blanket
