You should be avail to switch the straight out. HOWEVER, you probably will need a TECH-II or an ISAT to reset the AirBag ECU.
If you disconnect the car battery wait for 20 minutes (to be safe and no guarantee) before swapping them around, you may not need a TECH-II or an ISAT. If you SRS light start blinking and stays on, you are going to need it to reset the SRS-Airbag ECU.
I have done it on my 1992 9000 but had to modified the wiring inside the Steering Wheel. I bought mine through Ebay..
