The earlier setup for 9000s is like yours, i.e. the catalytic converter is aft of the flex pipe. Indeed, the mounting hooks for this setup are still there on my 1994 Aero. Many implementations of larger diameter exhaust systems use this setup because larger diameter cats will not fit in the original location found in the newer cars, i.e. under the sump. Note that 1994 was a transition year to a slightly shorter engine block (used on 9000s until 1998), so there might be a fitment issue. Be sure to pick up the mounting stay that holds the top of the cat to the engine block - these rust out due to the heat in that location.
