I had a similar difficulty after my regular locksmith retired & closed, then I moved, and...
The only options I could find were quite distant.
Lucky for me & just by chance I ran into a locksmith when out shopping in an area about 45 minutes away, and he referred me to his best buddy who is a mobile locksmith & does 100% of his work in his van.
Took a while to pin him down - and he corrected me on the type for our 9K cars - said they are just called side cut keys, and yes, he could cut my blank for $30.
When I got with him - literally at a school parking lot where he was working - his van had just one very fancy computerized machine that does it all.
He was able to cut mine as well as making a plain metal spare for my partner's Subaru, which also has that side cut type of key (dealers charge as much as $300 for the fancy ones with the buttons...).
All good after all - but not an easy thing to pin down for sure.
I hope you were successful.
