JerseySaab,

Thanks for your responses.

I was able to access the bolt without moving any exhaust components. I was able to get a wrench on it but it was an open end and I didn't want to risk rounding it. So I ordered a 18mm 6pt 15deg offset wrench was able to loosen the bolt.

The reason I started this project was because the clutch bite point was fairly high. The only cause of this I could find was a worn clutch disk.

I removed the transmission and checked the clutch disk. It is just a little thinner than 8mm, I didn't have a caliper to measure so I checked it with an 8mm open end wrench. There is very little play with the 8mm wrench.

So the clutch wear was not the cause of the high bite point. The slave is an after market. There are no markings on it. The innermost sleeve is approximately 2 15/16" tall, and the outer moving sleeve is approximately 1 7/8".

Could the slave have missized parts. If my understanding of the clutch operation is correct if the slave parts are too tall they would disengage the clutch early with less clutch pedal travel than an OEM clutch.

I did read a post where someone suggested that a hydraulic clutch like that was somehow not releasing pressure could cause a similar issue with a high engagement point. I did bleed the clutch prior to dismantling and found no excess pressure.

If anyone has any ideas as to what other than disk wear would cause a high bite point please let me know.

If anyone has an original slave for the 94-98 model years and can measure the components I would be grateful for those measurements. I don't know if these measurements might be available in a parts catalog as well.

Thanks,

Ron
