Left turn signal bulbs stay on when unlocking with remote

This happened to me twice today with my 1997 CSE. When unlocking the car using the remote the turn signals on the left side of the car stayed on, steadily lit. They would not respond to the turn signal lever or the 4-way flasher switch, and remained on after starting the engine. Locking and unlocking the car again with the remote set things back to normal.

Is this the flasher relay getting stuck? Some other problem with the remote system? This has never happened with normal use of the turn signals or 4-way flashers.
