Side mirror rant Posted by Bart [Email] (#3814) [Profile/Gallery]

I just got through paying $184 for a replacement side mirror and motor for my 99 9-5 (thanks to the vandal that broke it). It was 120 for the motor and 64 for the glass. Not to sound naive, but I am disgusted that for my 184 dollars, I received about $11 of true value. The mirror is a stupid piece of glass in a plastic case, reasonable replacement cost $10. The only problem with the motor unit was a broken plastic notched piece an inch long, reasonable replacement value $1. The broken piece can be easily removed from the motor unit and replaced. Of course, SAAB does not sell the plastic bit, it only sells the entire motor unit. This really ticks me off. I know it is standard procedure to gouge customers for replacement parts, but considering the dearth of 99 9-5 in used part inventories, I had no choice.
AAAAARRRGGHHH!
There, now I feel better.
