I have little familiarity with Saab's, (as can be seen by my recent radio removal debacle) but a decent seat of the pants method of charging your A/C without gages is to run the A/C on max and high on a warm day. Hold your hand on the low pressure line near the compressor. (Should be the fatter of the two) When the low side line is cool to the touch you should be close to the right charge amount.
The only real way to do it is to completly evacuate the system and charge it by weight. If you have both a high and low pressure manifold gage you can use the above trick while also monitoring pressures. This can be helpful if something is wrong. Plugged or open expansion valve, or other thing that will lead to odd pressure differentials.
I wouldn't advise playing with it if you are not sure because you can mess things up with an overcharge. Since R134A is so cheap, I doubt an A/C shop would charge you much to take a look at it.
