Paul: The TCS warning light is designed to come on when the computer detects a fault somewhere in the system, which in the case of the manual transmission 9Kt's, is also tied into the ABS components. (From numerous threads on saabnet it's apparent that the system, while quite sophisticated, is prone to a host of problems, any one of which is apt to send you "limping home" when you least expect it to; unfortunately, the '92 TCS editions are difficult, and expensive, to neuter whereas later models can be retrofitted with an on/off switch much more readily.)
While my daughter's '92 experienced virtually no hiccups from the TCS through 180K miles, the luck-of-the-draw suggests we haven't been so lucky with ours. In my case, the TCS recorded codes D.T.C. 783BO/33450, which both indicate a faulty TCS safety valve (which was found to have a bad winding creating an intermittent open circuit....which could explain why it would correct itself on re-start). While I was told by my (ex-Saab) mechanic that this is the single most common failure in the TCS, there are certainly many more possible culprits lurking, as other threads have hit on. Good Luck!!
