Can't say that I'm terribly upset, just concerned.
My 1992 9KT has been barely above boost for a few months now (and barely ever into the red since I've owned it), which I attributed to a lone tank of 87 octane gas and a bad DI cassette. I stopped the 87 gas about two months ago, and changed the DI cassette one month ago, and still was getting just above base (almost hitting the red on occasion).
Well, I just finished a trip between buildings at work (65-ish degrees F), and barely pressed on the accelerator, and almost ended up in the back seat! One the way back, the same thing happened, and I pushed the accelerator down a bit further, and the turbo cut-out hit, which has NEVER happened. It is easily going into the middle red now.
I certainly don't mind the effect WOW! :), but I'm now concerned that something is wrong.
1. Is this a sign of a solenoid going bad? Is the wastegate stuck shut? Any ideas on what's going on?
2. Should I be careful to avoid engine damage?
Thanks in advance for any help.
