... Robert Davis pointed out to me that overfilling can result in foaming of the oil by way of having the rods and crank throws thrashing around in the oil. I have to agree, so I don't feel comfortable filling to the bottom of the 'X' any more. As a general rule, I'd stay a bit shy of that, but I've run mine for extended periods with it that full without problems. I certainly wouldn't panic as long as it's below the 'X'.
