you could have an intermittent short or break in the wire to the motor that controls the automatic locking. The place I'd check first is the wiring in between the door and car itself. The wires can deteriorate due to the opening and closing of the door hundreds of times. Take the clip off and pull back the rubber covering off all the wires. I had intermittent loss of window controls from a worn wire in the is area. It wasn't broken but you could feel thiness in the wire itself. The door inserts on these cars are very slick and come out rather easily if you can locate all the bolts! This is from a foggy memory but I'll do my best they are all torx but allen wrenches can be substitued . There is one under the cover of the outside mirror, one or two under the door handle cover, two on each end of the door pocket under caps and don't forget the last one on the safety light in the door jam area. Once you do that you're all set. You can see all the wiring and you should go over them all carefully feeling the length of them. If you feel any cracks or "thin spots"?? in the wire that may be the problem. The only thing to remember when putting it back is to slide the rubber seal into the groove along the window, kind of snaps in.
