I just did this on my 900, I think the racks are similar. The inner tie rod bolt should be bent in a little in the back (behind where the flats for the wrenches are) which kid of locks the bolt in place. You have to bend them out in order to losten the tie rod. I took mine out with a pair of water pump pliers, but you can rent a tool for it at autozone, for free.
