Its an '86 9000T.
Thanks for any possible reasons for the fact that holes were drilled in it. The only person who could have done it was a licensed Saab mechanic who is long gone. (The car origionally belonged to my Father and I know it has only been to this one dealer for its entire life)
The vehicle was running hot on warm days and wouldn't heat up on cold days. Therefore, I went after the t-stat, I remember when I changed it, it slammed shut as I took it out of its warm bath of Ethelne Glycol. In addition, the new t-stat (A NAPA product) (I was in a bind that day (cold as hell and no heat)) didn't have any holes in it, and I didn't drill any holes in for fear that the holes were causing my temperature problem. The new one has regulated the temperature great, but I have 1 concern that maybe someone can confirm.
Thanks, I look forward to reading about possible answers to the mystery.
P.S. The holes were about 1/8" in diameter and there were 4 drilled on both "plates" (a total of 8 holes at 12 3 6 and 9 o'clock)
