I installed a set up polyurethane upper mounts a few weeks ago on my 89 9K turbo. I have driven it a few weeks now and notice no difference whatsoever. The old ones were tearing but not completely gone. I had replaced the lower mounts a few months ago.
I bought the units from GAPA at 24.50 a set. The only downfall I found was the second set used a 12mm bolt versus the stock 10mm bolt. I had to drill out the mount to allow the larger bolt to pass through. That and finding a bolt. I have been meaning to talk to GAPA about that. The second small nuisance was the center spacer was quite a bit longer than the stock one which required spreading the fork on the torque rod a bit.
Removing the old rubbers was a mixed bag. The rear one was easy. I sat it in the vise and a pair of 4 pound hammers had it out in about 20 blows. The one closest to the engine was considerably more stubborn. Pressing it out with a home made press and threadall did not budge it. I ended up breaking it up with a air chisel and alot of effort.
Anyways, I notice not additional noise, shifter feel etc... Really no change. I will note that the bushing material is fairly soft. I have another set of suspension bushings setting here for another car and the durometer on them is 80. These are considerably softer. I wish I had a durometer for a better idea.
