The last 2 days I notice a loud "knock" coming from my engine like a rod was going or something. Just tonight 2 blocks from my home the battery light came on and I lost my power steering. Well I made it into the garage and left it running and looked under the hood. Both belts were still turning, however, the serpentine belt was moving very slow but appeared intact. I notice that the belt was off track and lodged behind the harmonic balancer after I shut it off and that there appears to be broken plastic or rubber in the interior of the harmonic balancer. Any idea on what may have happened here????? I also must add that the knocking that I was hearing was no longer present and the car appeared to be running find aside from the belt falling off. It is my assumption that one pulley or another froze up but not sure which one. If it is the Balancer what is the replacement price? and how long does it take to change? and should anything else be done as long as that is off? Please Email me or Post in here ASAP as we are a 2 car family down to 1 car. I must add that this is an 87 9000S model. Thank You
