but on my 94 prelude I had the same problem as Terry. When I first noticed it I was on my way back from a 500 mile trip and there was no place that I trusted to do the job. While on the phone to my indy back in wisconsin, he said to take a hammer and wak the alternator once or twice. I did and it surprisingly it has worked ever since. He explained that the springs for the brushes were sticking up and not down. He said that this was very common. So when you reach 3k your engine is vibrating enough to loosen and engage the alternator (just guessing). The two things are probably unrelated, but maybe it will work long enough for you to drive home from woek. Good luck. Thanks,
