Throttle body cleaner & intake manifold cleaner would be a good Posted by John Fitzgerald [Email] (#77) [Profile/Gallery] (more from John Fitzgerald) on Sun, 11 Feb 2001 23:38:17 In Reply to: engine hesitation, Cameron, Sun, 11 Feb 2001 20:25:26 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
idea, too. A very thorough kit, made by BG products, is available at Andrew's (800-882-7220) for about $50 -- it's a three step process, with the throttle body, manifold, injectors, fuel pump & lines cleaned very completely. I've done it and will continue to make it part of a 30k major maint type service. Buying quality gas (major name brand) is a proven way (via BMW intake valve testing and Consumer Reports magazine) to minimize injector fouling.
Another approach is timing: My 86 & 87 9kt's are very sensitive to timing with certain sparkplugs -- off a degree or more with Bosch Plus 4's = exactly what you're mentioning.
Regarding your selection of aftermarket rotor & dist cap: not worth the couple of dollars you save each year. I could take a paragraph to decribe the breakdown characteristics of a rotor which slowly shatters while driving my 80 99 -- suffice it to say it was the only time in 20 + years of all Saabs that it happened and it was the first (and last) time I used anything besides OEM Bosch. Yes, I've always carried a spare rotor and cap in the trunk since then (along with bulbs, plugs, a serpentine belt, duct tape, wire, etc).
