Thanks for the input. I'm pretty sure I've covered all the possible vac leak sources. When a leak is present, a tiny amount of butane causes a significant change in revs.
Neither my car (87 9kT) nor my friend's (88 9kT) have air con. Most early UK cars didn't. Also, we don't have charcoal canisters. Honest, we really don't.
Anyhoo, I think I'll just leave it disconnected for now. I don't think the AMM is at fault, since the drive is otherwise perfect (no hesitation etc).
