I am not sure if your "88" is the same as my 94 Aero but I did not remove
any AC lines. but released them from the retaining clips. I also removed the condesor bolts to shift it over. I think that what you are looking for
is the TWO PLASTIC CLIPS AT THE BOTTOM LEFT AND RIGHT OF THE FAN HOUSING
WHICH CAN BE SEPERATED WITH TWO LONG SCREWDRIVERS THEN ROCK THE FAN HOUSING AWAY FROM THE BULKHEAD AT THE BOTTOM, (you may need a flashlight to see these release clips). In my case I did not remove the heater hoses
but in Hind sight You may want to replace the heaater core just beczuse it is right in front of you and they do not have a long life span.
