Todd: As Katherine stated, you'll be hard-pressed to find a more versatile, yet fun to drive, car than a 9000 hatchback. To comment on a couple of your areas of concern......as far as I can tell, the only advantage in a '93 over earlier vintages (aside from the questionable exterior sheet metal changes and a rear wiper) might be in having a slightly stiffer chassis, switchable traction control option on the turbo models or the extra clout & classy interior of an "Aero" (but you won't find one of those in the under-$5k group!) . On the subject of turbo vs non-turbo....having had several of both, I can say without reservation that the turbo is the only way to go, particularly a '91 or '92 5-spd with their 200hp and 240 ft lbs of torque, which can usually be found in the $4K to $6K range with 90K -100K miles. (The '91 wasn't blessed with the inherent traction control problems of the '92's). A clutch that hasn't been abused will probably give you 125K to 150K or possibly more, before replacement; as for your "mutant V-6", I don't think a V-6 was an option until '95 or '96 or possibly later , but I have'nt heard much good said about them or their track record. Check out Quasi's site for some well-stated concise criteria on Saab selection & features. Good Luck!
