I have a '51 chevy suburban carryall which I have owned for about 30 years. in 1987 I completly rebuild the motor. Motors of this era typicaly require major service or rebuilding every 50-60,000 miles, primarily because they do not lubricate themselve very well, do not have oil filters, and the oil available at the time was non-detergent.

I have run LE oil 10-30w which is a synthetic oil, (Lubrication Engineers in my opinion makes the finest oil on the planet) since the rebuild. Two years ago I pulled the head to replace the head gasket. I was astonished to find virtualy no wear on the cylinder walls. The hone marks from the rebuild were still visible. everything I could check looked perfect. This engine had about 45,000 miles on it since the rebuild. Hey, the valves
don't even "tick"

I am totally sold.
