first thing, and this is debatable, but it works. Wash and vacuum out your car if it's not already spiffy. that's about 500 bux right there :)

post this query on either the message boards at http://www.autobodyonline.com or the Usenet group misc.industry.insurance (recommended) Also http://www.insure.com is a good insurance reference.

gather your receipts and be there when the appraisier is going over the car so you can point out the highlights and special value of the car. You may also consider buying it for salvage, for a few hundred dollars you could have a pretty good parts car, if you have a place to keep it. Or, consider stripping it and storing the parts and wrecking the shell.

Some general points: don't take it to the body shops they'll try and steer you to use. Use the classifieds on this board and use the national search on http://www.autotrader.com for a wider range of valuations. keep all your communications in writing, and make them do the same. You'll be surprised how many 'guarantees' they won't put in writing and how facts and numbers will change.
