I have the same problem in my '96 9000 CS, and it has been happening since my SAAB dealer had to install a rebuilt automatic transmission at only 37,000 miles. Usually happens only on the 2 - 3 shift, although I have occasionally heard it on the 3 - 4 shift. It happened a lot during the colder weather, but I noticed that last week when we were having high temperatures in the low 80s, it didn't happen at all. This morning was cooler, about 45 degress when I drove to work, and it did it again on the 2 - 3 shift. My noise tends to go away as the engine/transmission warms up.
I had the car in to the dealer for 40,000 mile service last week, and complained about the noise. Of course, the service shop could not get the noise to happen for them, probably because it was hot last week. They said the transmission seemed to be operating normally.
Maybe the noise is not coming from the transmission. I assumed it was because I started to hear it immediately after the rebuilt tramsmission was installed.
Would be interested in anyone else's thoughts on this noise. I don't want to damage the transmission.
