> The Optima from Interstate is a super battery.

Unless Interstate has new line called Optima or is a licensee of OPTIMA, I assume you are referring to the OPTIMA of http://www.optimabatteries.com, which from what I can see has nothing to do with Interstate.

Has anyone bothered to put their battery in the trunk? What is the best routing of the cables?

It seems to be fashionable to say that heat is the killer of batteries; and in particular the heat of a turbo; and in particular, Saab-brand batteries. But is there any data to support this? For example, mean lifetime in engine compartment vs. in trunk? Maybe there is a difference but it is relatively small, not worth the trouble?

For example, looking at the specs of Interstate's battery (in http://www.interstatebatteries.com, just the basic green top, not even the Mega-Tron), it seems that it has been tested to "SAE J-240" --- 167°F, 5300 cycles. At two cycles per day, 365 days a year, that's 7+ years.

Is this not good enough? Even with a turbo, is the battery really subjected to significantly greater than 167°F where it is situated? In summer, I rarely see even 120°F on the temperature readout, and this is usually in slow traffic. When the car gets going, the readout usually drops to the 80s or 90s. Does the battery see higher temperatures than the temperature sensor?

Do we really have to baby our batteries by putting them in the trunk?
