Never moved the turbo bypass valve

I couldn't even disconnect the hose (so tight) to the metal tube to replace the air filter, let alone design and engineer a new location. The turbo bypass valve has always been there since the car was new---at the intersection of the black plastic intake air duct downstream of the air filter, and the aluminum (?) Whatchamacallit tube feeding supposedly pressurized air to (what I assume is) the throttle and thence the intake manifold. It seems to be the logical place for it. I wonder whether the fact that turbo input and output intersect was intentional or a happy coincidence.

I was not aware that the bypass valve has any temperature issues. Also, it isn't clear to me why the top of the Whatchamacallit tube would "get hot from the turbo" and needs to be insulated. I assume you mean that the tube gets hot from being close to the turbo, rather than because the air inside comes from the turbo [because the air has already passed through/under the radiator and been cooled off somewhat], right.

BTW, I was told by the dealer that replacing the leaking input and selector shaft seals would be about a seven hour job (7 x ~$70/hr = ~$490).
