$4500 for a harness?? I knew they were expensive, but that's way above and beyond anything I was thinking, even brand new from the dealer. If that's true, I'd expect several hundred dollars for a good used one, if you can find it. If you're east coast USA though, you may have a lot better selection than we do here in WA (at least for local yards to go scrounging at). Doing a search on the web for used Saab parts pulls up quite a few good places to start.
Unless you do the work yourself, however, the labor will cost an arm and a leg. I'd expect no less than 10 hours to replace the harness, maybe quite a bit more, depending on whether you need just the one behind the dash or the entire engine compartment - I'm not even sure if they are separate harnesses or if it's all one piece..
Your call on whether to keep the car or not... I've had some major expensive repairs in my car, but they were the usual items. If your car is low mileage and you're fairly confident that you won't have one or two more additional similarly expensive repairs in the near future, and it's in otherwise excellent shape, I might be inclined to have it fixed, at least, if you love the car.
Good luck,
Aaron Gilbert
