It is my understanding from limited experience that high NOx readings are a byproduct of running lean. I was just able to make the same engine in a 900 pass for NOx by tracing a vaccuum leak at the charcoal canister. There's a diaphragm inside the canister that goes bad and throws the mixture into the lean side. Check for any source for leaks, all throughout your vaccuum system.

Running lean due to air leaks may cause your O2 circuit to overcompensate, allowing the engine to swerve into the rich side long enough for the computer to detect a fault. Check your fault codes (search the posting archive for more detail). If you get codes for both rich and lean, then your O2 may be functioning as normal but you're still averaging a lean mixture.

Definitely run that pill through the engine - it may have some detergents added to it that could help unfoul valves, etc.
