ball joints *should* be a snap. Don't forget, there is an external snap ring on top of the stud, a bolt that passes thru a relief cut out on the stud, and three bolts holding the ball joint to the control arm. after removing all those fasteners, it still takes some force to pry it all away from the control arm. IMO, for suspension work, you can't have too big of a hammer :D
