do a carfax.com search, that should reveal any dirty secrets from its' past. check out Quasi's site for typical problems, he goes into most stuff. Interior wear is a good indicator of mileage reality - pedal rubber wear, seat wear, are all the digits in the odomoter nicely lined up or are they all over the place? One important question with any SAAB, is does the car have maintenance records? If it really is a one owner 37,000 mile car it should most likely have them. Most people buying a new SAAB would have taken it to the dealer at least until the warranty expired (3 or 4 years on a '95 - I'm not sure which). The dealer should have the records if the car was taken there, and be able to recall them from the VIN, even if the seller doesn't have them. That is a pretty easy check to do. If the records run out at 30,000 miles in 1996, then I would smell a rat! For a price, $12,000 doesn't sound outrageous, but no bargain either. Run a NADA.com check on the price for retail and wholesale and draw your own conclusions... I think NADA is pretty realistic. Kelley blue Book is usually ridiculously high, but if you pay about 20% below their retail, you are doing good.
Also check ads in http://www.autotrader.com and http://www.excite.com classifieds to see what people are asking for similar cars. The SAAB dealer I bought my 9000 from had a 1995 9000 CSE w/25,000 one-owner miles, Full Service History, they wanted $15,900 for it, I don't know if it sold at that. One thing that is important is: is it a 9000 CS or CSE - CSE worth a bit more, leather/no leather seems to make a big difference on how easy it is to sell the car, at least thet is what I found when looking for a 9000 in MA.
Good luck - there are plenty of these cars out there, there is no need to buy a bad one - I was at the dealer where I bought mine yesterday and they must have had ten 9000s at least.
