the memory on most codes, I usually leave longer- disconnect the ground wire (-) - however some must be erased by ISAT. The check engine will eventually self erase after approximate 10 starts and stops (the diagnostics looks at faults in various systrems every start and others less frequently but 10 will usually clear the "check engine" for simple faults. ( also depends on year car too)
