You are correct: you will now have a SINGLE low-speed fan, triggering at 82c.
My two cents (coming off of MONTHS with a manaully-triggered fan and persistent problems with two-speed system)
Who cares how often the fan runs? I frankly have had several cars with the fan running CONSTANTLY (73 99, 78 99GL, 78 99EMS, 86 900s) while waiting for parts. Made up a relay to flip on when ignition's on, and the fan's on whenever the car's running. (Winter, summer, whatever.)
Fans are much cheaper than engines. Two speed fans are pretty quiet at low speed. Heat kills. The ONLY problem with frequent-cycling might be a dead battery in hot weather. But that is still more easily fixed than an aluminum head on an iron block that hits the red zone. (The "H" on your temp guage stand for "Head gasket." ;)
Sorry, I sound shrill here, but I am so sick of dealing with my current manual system's shortcomings (dead battery if I forget to switch it off) while worrying about the engine temp, that the complaint of too-frequent cycling seems less urgent.
I'll TRADE YOU my brand new Saab replacement switch for your Wahler!
Best of luck,
Ben
