9000 CSE-Build quality question

I looked at a 94 CSE (113K) tonight and noticed a few things that may indicate prior damage (prior to the current 2nd owner's stewardship, as well). No obvious overspray but lighting, dirt on the finish (Citrin Beige) and forgetting my glasses (one very bad eye for close viewing) prevented scrutiny thorough enough to look for sanding swirl marks. But I did see some panel fitment things that make me uneasy. The gaps between the door panels were uneven from top (narrower) to bottom. Also the lower rearward corner of one front door panel stood proud of the front edge of the rear door panel by about 5mm and one corner of the truck lid seemed to stand a bit above the adjacent fender (~3mm).
The question is are these observations typical for the general level of bulid quality in these vehicles? Any of you that are original owners of a car from this series should have some feel for this. Maybe I'm just being too picky but my #1 requisite in any car I buy, irrespective of price, is that it's not going to rot out from under me in a few years because old bodywork starts crumbling. Everything else on the car seemed fine with the exception of some small rust stains bleeding out from under the protective black trim on the door. Again, is this typical or possibly a bad sign?
TIA
