After 1.5 years and $4000 my a/c is now working. I also had a new rebuilt 115 amp alternator installed... rebuilt by Bosch in Vancouver... (the Halifax Saab dealer had last year put an 80 amp local rebuilt in it). I had a gasket replaced that was causing and oil leak... and when all of this work was done the car still didn't run... it wouldn't idle... just die unless you held your foot on the gas. So the mechanic looked at the connectors to the main computer and said they were corroded. He cleaned up the contacts, but it back together, and I drove home with what seemed like a perfectly running 1991 9000... complete with air conditioning. The next morning the car wouldn't start at all. There is fuel, there is spark. The mechanic came to my house and messed around with the connector and it started... so he took the car to his shop to clean the contacts again. I have to drive this car from Nova Scotia to Ontario, I am not a mechanic, I have to drive through rural areas, and I need to know that the problems have been solved. Does it make any sense that this plug would be the cause of the car not starting? Before it failed completely, it was just not holding the idle. I am sorry that I am explaining this so poorly, but in addition to my lack of knowledge there were 3 or 4 problems going on simultaneously. Also, the mechanic put in platinum spark plugs... was that a mistake?
The good old days were when only the A/C didn't work.
Could you also tell me (and the mechanic) how you find those fault codes? What buttons do you press on the ACCU? In what order?
thanks again for all of your time and help. My Saab ran so beautifully last night coming home from the mechanic, so it was really depressing to find that it wouldn't even start this morning. Sorry to whine!
