Steps
1. Remove the flat L/R switch knob by pulling it straight out from the panel, using a wiggling motion.
2. Remove the foam thingy from the L/R switch shaft to expose a slot.

3. Using a flat screwdiver less than 1/4 inches wide, push the screwdriver into the section at the rear extremity of the slot where there is a clip release thingy.

4. Move the release clip forward to release it from behind the panel trim, while pulling the rear of the whole mirror switch panel outward from the rear.

This is how my 93 works. If I can recall correctly, my 97 and/or 90 were a little different. Maybe there was a 1/8 inch slot at the front or rear extremity of the mirror switch where a small screwdriver can be engaged to release the clips.
