It's great to hear that the MBC is working for you. I think this is a good band-aid to keep you comfortable on the road, but not the most ideal permanent solution. You should definately keep diagnosing this problem to ensure engine safety.
I believe that the boost controller may be somewhat masking the problem more than anything else. With the stock system, you're getting nasty boost spikes for some reason. If the problem isn't a result of faulty electronics (what could it be other than the ECU or BPC?), then it should still be present with the MBC. By adding the MBC set as it is, you've effectively lowered the max boost from its stock level. Most likely, your pressure spikes are still present (assuming the problem really is not electronic) with the MBC configuration. The difference is that since the max boost is lower, there is more headroom between max boost and fuel cut. In essence, you still have boost overshoots, they just don't go high enough to trigger the MAP. To know for sure, I'd try using a real boost gauge. Your stock unit won't give accurate enough readings to really see those quick overshoots.
In my opinion, your safest option is to continue using the MBC at reasonable levels until the problem is solved for good. If you keep pressure lower than stock as you have it now, no harm can come. Quite the contrary, in fact. I'm sure those fuel cuts are much harder on the car than a properly tuned MBC could ever be. I thank you for your diligence in keeping us informed and hope you continue this in the future as I appear to be in the same boat.
